Jean-Baptiste Donatien de VIMEUR, Comte de ROCHAMBEAU, a Lieutenant General of the French Royal Army, was sent to the United States in 1780 to help General WASHINGTON defeat the Crown Forces of King George III.
He brought with him a host of highly trained French infantry, cavalry, artillery & combat engineers, as well as a squadron of the French Royal Navy.
Working under General WASHINGTON'S command, they forced the British surrender at Yorktown in 1781, leading to the eventual end of the American War for Independence.
We have carefully prepared a first-person impression of General ROCHAMBEAU to help the public understand France's contributions to American independence during the Revolutionary War.
Working from a recreation of ROCHAMBEAU's Yorktown headquarters tent, we offer mini lectures that highlight some of the social, political, logistical & financial challenges faced - and overcome - by the Franco-American alliance.
We appear at two events annually:
The Revolution: Huntington Beach
Early March at Huntington Beach Central Park in Huntington Beach, CA.
&
The Colonial Heritage Festival
July 4 weekend at Scera Park in Orem, UT.
